That "Awful" Christmas Feeling

Christmas is supposed to be filled with some of the richest and sweetest expressions of love and charity. Only, many times during the Christmas season we actually don't feel all that happy. In fact, we end up feeling downright awful and sad. We all know that getting the perfect Christmas gift would be magical. But how many of us end up buying vain gifts out of obligation? We would hate to leave anyone out. Even pulling a name and only having one person to shop for can be a challenge if you don't know them well or have a limited budget. Another situation that is common is how do you shop for each child of yours when you feel like they already have more than enough toys and things? Sometimes it just leaves you feeling yucky rather than uplifted like we should feel at Christmas.

Here are a few of the thoughts I have had during Christmas that have left me with an awful Christmas feeling. And please don't take offense, I'm just being honest. I have felt all these feelings before.

Oh no! I forgot someone's gift!
I don't know what to get them.
I'll just get them something.
I'll just get a gift card.
What if I'm just wasting my money on this?
They didn't like it.
They already have it.
They are taking it back.
It seems like they have everything already.
They told me exactly what to get them.
They just threw it to the side to open another present and don't care about it.
I spent more on her than I did on him.
Everything they want is really expensive.
It's Christmas Eve and I still don't have a present to give them...
Shopping on Christmas Eve.
This has nothing to do with Christ.

So what can we do about it? I don't know. You tell me. I guess for each individual and family there has to be a solution. I will be writing up soon what we have decided. Only, we haven't completely decided yet. Praying about it and looking for the right answer for our family. You will no doubt have your own for yours.
