Boxes Under the Tree

I know that seeing all the Christmas presents in their foil lined wrapping paper and pretty bows just makes everyone happy. The wonder and curiosity is enchanting and who can't help but daydream and wait anxiously for Christmas morning when they get to, at last, opening them up to see what is inside.  It's really a fun thing to experience. But it can also detract from the very purpose of Christmas.

In an effort to focus more on Christ and the gift He is to us, we have started building a little town of Bethlehem beneath the tree from boxes that we have been saving or were donated by friends.

Hopefully we can work on one of the houses, inns or shops each day; painting and furnishing them with action figures and miniature things.

The Mr. helped me with this, of course, and explained to me that when he went to Egypt he noticed all the rooftops were flat. I was going to make them pointy like ours.
We too will wait, with Mary and Joseph, for the Star to appear on the top of the tree
and for the sweet baby Jesus to be born on Christmas morning.
(I actually still have to find him. He is lost somewhere in the kids' toys;)

Like Christmas presents stuffed beneath the tree in my youth, although very different, I hope that this, too, will build dear memories for the kids:)
And instead of looking forward to fancy gifts on Christmas morning, will help them think more on the Savior at His birth and the blessing He is in their life!
